**New Delhi:** The race for Haryana’s upcoming Assembly elections is heating up, with both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress set to release their election manifestos on Wednesday.
The BJP, aiming for a third consecutive term in power, will release its manifesto, titled “Sankalp Patra,” in Rohtak, led by party chief JP Nadda. The manifesto is expected to focus on employment opportunities for youth, women-centric initiatives, and measures to support farmers.
Meanwhile, the Congress, hoping to unseat the BJP, will unveil its manifesto in a separate event, led by party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Their manifesto is likely to address concerns of youth, women, farmers, and the elderly population. Notably, in their 2019 manifesto, the Congress had promised loan waivers for farmers and reservation for women in government jobs.
Haryana will go to polls on October 5, with vote counting scheduled for October 8. The election is widely seen as a direct contest between the BJP and Congress, with the ruling party seeking a third term and the Congress aiming to capitalize on anti-incumbency sentiment.
Both parties faced internal struggles leading up to the election, with several senior leaders resigning due to disagreements over ticket distribution. Other parties contesting the elections include the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which initially planned to contest alongside the Congress but ultimately failed to agree on seat-sharing arrangements. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Azad Samaj Party are contesting in alliance, as are the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Major election issues raised by the opposition include farmer concerns, unemployment, and law and order, all aimed at criticizing the ruling BJP’s performance.
