Wed Sep 18 02:52:00 UTC 2024: ## B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive Kicks Off, Aiming to Help Families in Need

**Victoria, BC** – The 17th annual B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) is officially underway, with volunteers across the province rallying to combat food insecurity. The drive will be collecting non-perishable food items and financial donations throughout September, culminating in a major collection and drop-off event in Greater Victoria on September 21st.

The BCTFD, known for its strong community spirit, relies on volunteers from various sectors including churches, businesses, and community programs. These volunteers will be going door-to-door to collect donations, ensuring that local food banks can provide vital resources for families in need over the Thanksgiving season.

Last year, the drive saw remarkable success, with over 6,000 volunteers dedicating a combined 21,800 hours of service across the province. This resulted in the collection of thousands of pounds of food, including 4,940 pounds for the Shelbourne Community Kitchen in Victoria alone.

“Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference in the lives of those who rely on food banks,” said a spokesperson for the BCTFD. “We encourage everyone to get involved – whether through volunteering, donating food, or contributing financially. Together, we can make this year’s food drive the most successful yet.”

The BCTFD emphasizes that participating in the drive goes beyond providing food; it also raises awareness about the critical issue of food insecurity. The organization urges individuals to visit their website at https://www.bctfooddrive.org for more information or to make a donation.
