**Rancho Cucamonga, CA** – Emily Gold, a 17-year-old senior at Los Osos High School and a member of the school’s dance team that competed on season 19 of America’s Got Talent, has died in an apparent suicide. Gold was found deceased on the 210 freeway early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Sources close to the family have confirmed that Gold is believed to have jumped from an overpass onto the highway, where she was struck by a vehicle.
Gold and her dance team, who received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell for their final performance, were eliminated from the competition in August. Despite the busy schedule of the reality show, Gold told People magazine just last month that she was able to balance school with the show, saying, “we make it happen.”
The principal of Los Osos High School expressed condolences to Gold’s family, stating, “Emily was on both our Varsity Dance Team and Varsity Cheer squad, our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they grieve.”
A GoFundMe page set up for Gold’s family has already raised over $30,000.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the America’s Got Talent community and beyond, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and support for young people.
