The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony, held in Los Angeles on Sunday, saw the historical epic “Shogun” dominate the night, winning a record-breaking 18 awards, the most ever for a single season. The series, which tells the story of a samurai during Japan’s feudal period, also took home the coveted “Outstanding Drama Series” award. Its Japanese stars, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, were both recognized for their performances, winning awards for “Lead Actor, Drama” and “Lead Actress, Drama” respectively.
The controversial Netflix drama “Baby Reindeer,” a dark comedy about a comedian stalked by a customer, won “Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series,” with its creator and star Josh Gadd receiving the “Lead Actor, Limited Series or Movie” award and Jessica Gunning winning “Supporting Actress, Limited Series or Movie.”
“Hacks,” a comedy about a seasoned comedian and a millennial writer, secured the “Outstanding Comedy Series” award, with Jean Smart winning “Lead Actress, Comedy.” The popular “The Bear” also saw success, with Jeremy Allen White winning “Lead Actor, Comedy” and both Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas taking home awards for “Supporting Actor, Comedy” and “Supporting Actress, Comedy.”
The winners were selected by the Television Academy, comprised of over 22,000 industry professionals, including performers, directors, and producers.
