**New Delhi, India -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated six new Vande Bharat Express trains on Sunday, further expanding India’s modern rail network. The new routes, connecting Tatanagar-Patna, Brahmapur-Tatanagar, Rourkela-Howrah, Deoghar-Varanasi, Bhagalpur-Howrah, and Gaya-Howrah, are expected to reduce travel times and offer passengers a range of modern amenities focused on comfort and safety.
The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the growing Vande Bharat fleet, emphasizing its commitment to enhanced connectivity. Designed and manufactured indigenously under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the trains boast cutting-edge features, combining luxury and efficiency, according to the Indian Express.
Since the first Vande Bharat train launched in 2019, the fleet has rapidly expanded to 54 trains operating across India, completing over 36,000 trips and carrying over 3.17 crore passengers. These trains have covered a distance equivalent to 310.7 rounds of the Earth in the fiscal year 2023-24, covering over 280 districts across 24 states and Union Territories.
The latest iteration, Vande Bharat 2.0, features technological upgrades including faster acceleration, the indigenous ‘Kavach’ safety system, WiFi, and an anti-virus system. These features position the Vande Bharat Express as a state-of-the-art option for travellers, prioritizing speed and safety.
The success of the Vande Bharat Express not only showcases the achievements of the ‘Make in India’ initiative but also sets a new global standard for rail travel, demonstrating India’s commitment to modernization and innovation.
