**Vancouver, BC** – The Vancouver Whitecaps have made a series of roster moves ahead of the MLS and CPL roster freeze, loaning midfielder Jay Herdman to Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League and signing two Whitecaps FC 2 players to MLS contracts.
Midfielder Jeevan Badwal, an 18-year-old Surrey native, has signed a homegrown player contract through 2027 with options for 2028 and 2029. The Canadian youth international, who has impressed with Whitecaps 2 this season, will be the 26th academy player to sign an MLS contract with the club.
Forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau, a 22-year-old from Ottawa, has also signed an MLS contract through 2025 with club options for 2026 and 2027. Chateau, who leads Whitecaps FC 2 in goalscoring this season, joined the club in March after being selected 74th overall in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.
Herdman, the son of Toronto FC coach John Herdman, joins Cavalry on loan for the remainder of the CPL season. The 20-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer for Whitecaps FC 2, and his experience and attacking abilities will be valuable additions to Cavalry’s roster.
“Jay is an important signing for us, who will provide another attacking option for the run-in,” said Cavalry coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “He’s a player that we’ve been tracking since we played against Whitecaps in pre-season and he has very good quality, with terrific energy and the ability to contribute to goals.”
The Whitecaps face San Jose at home on Saturday, while Cavalry travel to Ottawa to face Atletico on Sunday.
