**Castries, Saint Lucia** – The Government of Saint Lucia has expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of Mr. David Samuels, a prominent figure in the nation’s broadcasting and media landscape, who passed away recently.
Samuels, known affectionately as “Dave the Rave” in his early days, dedicated over 56 years to broadcasting, tourism, entertainment, and civic duty. He started his career under the mentorship of renowned broadcaster Winston Hinkson and rose to prominence as a sensational radio personality. His musical talents also shone as the lead singer of the Tru Tones, a band led by Winston’s brother, Ronald Boo Hinkson.
Samuels was celebrated for his distinctive voice and unique interviewing style, particularly his work on Radio St. Lucia with the shows “Coffee Break” and “Mr. Chairman” on Calabash TV. He was instrumental in nurturing the careers of many younger media professionals through his company, David Samuels Productions (DSP), the first public relations and television production company in Saint Lucia.
The Government of Saint Lucia acknowledged Samuels’ recent recognition by the Media Honours Society as a trailblazer for his outstanding contributions to broadcasting, media, and related fields.
“Mr. Samuels was a true son of the soil, leaving an indelible mark on Saint Lucia’s media landscape,” said Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre. “His legacy will continue to inspire generations of media professionals.”
