**Manila, Philippines** – A fire ravaged several tenement buildings in the residential area of Tondo, Manila on Saturday, leaving numerous families displaced. The blaze, which broke out around 11:44 a.m., quickly engulfed Buildings 27 and 23 along Aroma Road. The Philippine Red Cross reported a separate fire in Building 9 on the same street.
Firefighters responded promptly, raising the alarm to the first level immediately after the outbreak. At 12:24 p.m., the situation escalated to Task Force Alpha, with Task Force Bravo prepared for deployment shortly after. After several hours of battling the flames, firefighters declared the fire under control at 6:23 p.m.
The extent of the damage and the number of families affected by the fire are still being assessed. The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
