Tom Cruise wowed the world during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a spectacular stunt that officially handed the Olympic torch to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games.
The Hollywood superstar, fresh off filming “Mission: Impossible,” performed a gravity-defying jump from the roof of Stade du France, landing at the base of the stadium. He then accepted the Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles before riding a motorcycle to an airplane near the Eiffel Tower.
The ceremony culminated with a pre-recorded segment showing Cruise skydiving into Los Angeles near the iconic Hollywood sign.
LA28 CEO Casey Wasserman revealed that Cruise received no compensation for his performance, emphasizing the dedication and commitment everyone involved brought to the project. “He finished filming ‘Mission: Impossible’ at 6 p.m. in London, got right on a plane. He landed in L.A. at 4 a.m., and filmed the scene where he pulls onto a military plane. In L.A., he does two jumps out of the thing. He didn’t like the first one, so he did a second jump. Then he helicoptered from Palmdale to the Hollywood sign, filmed from 1 until 5, helicoptered to Burbank Airport and flew back to London,” said Wasserman.
Cruise’s selfless performance has been met with widespread praise, further highlighting his commitment to his craft and his desire to deliver an unforgettable experience for the world.
