Sat Sep 14 01:35:48 UTC 2024: ## Tigers Snatch 1-0 Victory Over Orioles, Nearly Achieving Combined No-Hitter
**DETROIT** – The Detroit Tigers came agonizingly close to a combined no-hitter on Friday night, ultimately securing a 1-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The feat was thwarted in the ninth inning by Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson, who smashed a triple off Tigers closer Tyler Holton, ending the no-hit bid just one out shy of completion.
The Tigers’ pitching staff, led by Beau Brieske and Brant Hurter, was dominant throughout the game. Brieske opened the game and departed after four outs, while Hurter, who was credited with the win (5-1), pitched a remarkable 5 2/3 innings, allowing only a single walk and striking out eight batters.
The lone run of the game came in the first inning when Kerry Carpenter launched his 15th home run of the season, sending a first-pitch curveball from Orioles starter Zach Eflin (10-9) deep into right-center field.
While the Tigers’ pitching staff was firing on all cylinders, the Orioles’ offense struggled to generate any momentum against the formidable duo of Brieske and Hurter. Eflin pitched a solid game for the Orioles, giving up just one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
The Tigers’ bullpen held strong, with Brenan Hanifee replacing Hurter in the eighth and closing out the inning with two strikeouts and a groundout. Holton entered in the ninth and, after the Henderson triple, finished the game with a strikeout of Anthony Santander to secure his eighth save.
The Tigers (76-72) remain in the playoff hunt, while the Orioles (83-65) continue to solidify their position atop the AL East standings.
