Fri Sep 13 20:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Cordova City Council Approves New Residential Development and Hosts Harvest Fest

**CORDOVA, AL** – The Cordova City Council has approved plans for a new residential community and outdoor recreation facility, set to be built on 375 acres of land. The Cordova Economic Industrial Development Authority (CEIDA) is currently working on purchasing the land, which is located off Gardners Gin Road.

CEIDA also recently purchased 16 acres of land off Interstate 22 and is partnering with the Walker County Economic and Industrial Development Authority to market the property. Further details regarding both purchases will be released in the future.

The city is also hosting several upcoming events:

* **Public Visioning Forum:** On September 23rd at 6pm, the public is invited to participate in a visioning forum for the city’s downtown planning and redevelopment efforts.
* **Indian Head Harvest Fest:** The fifth annual event will be held on October 12th from 10am to 6pm at Indian Head Mill Park.
* **Youth Rally:** Mission 34 will host a youth rally at the city park on October 20th from 4pm to 8pm.
* **Christmas Parade:** The city’s annual Christmas parade has been moved from December 1st to Saturday, December 7th.

The city council also discussed updates from various departments, including:

* **Public Works:** Currently facing a staffing shortage, the department is actively seeking CDL drivers to assist with garbage pickup.
* **Fire Department:** Cordova firefighters responded to 57 calls in August, including two structure fires, eight woods fires, and five motor vehicle accidents.
* **Police Department:** In August, the department made 29 arrests, conducted 49 traffic stops, and issued 23 tickets.

The council also approved adding Canon Williams to the city’s water and gas board.
