**HYDERABAD, Pakistan -** A 16-year-old Hindu girl was kidnapped from her village in Hunguru, Sindh province, on Wednesday and forced to marry a much older man who converted her to Islam, community members reported. This incident comes on the heels of another case where a juvenile Hindu girl, kidnapped in Hyderabad a year ago, was finally returned to her family on Wednesday following a court order.
Shiva Faqir Kaachi, head of Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, a Hindu community organization, stated that the girl was taken to a seminary near Samura and married off. When her parents went to the seminary to see her, they were denied access.
“It has become a regular occurrence for Hindu families to see their young daughters and sisters forcibly taken away and converted to be married off to Muslim men,” Kaachi lamented. He pointed out that the poverty of most Hindu families in Pakistan makes their women easy targets.
The organization plans to pursue legal action to recover the abducted girl. “How long it will take, no one knows. But we will continue to fight this injustice and crime,” Kaachi declared.
This incident echoes a similar case in January 2022, where a Hindu girl abducted just three days after her wedding was allegedly converted to Islam and married to a Muslim man. She escaped after 14 months but was abducted again and remains missing.
These cases highlight the ongoing issue of forced conversions and forced marriages in Pakistan, particularly targeting Hindu women, and the difficulties they face in seeking justice.
