Thu Sep 12 01:26:03 UTC 2024: ## Packers’ Backup QB Malik Willis Prepares for Potential Start Against Colts

**GREEN BAY, Wis.** – With starting quarterback Jordan Love still recovering from a knee injury sustained in the Packers’ season opener, backup Malik Willis is preparing to potentially lead the team against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Love, who injured his left medial collateral ligament in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, has yet to practice this week. While Packers coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t ruled out Love playing, he stressed that Love needs to be cleared and confident enough to protect himself before he can even consider taking the field.

Meanwhile, Willis, acquired from the Tennessee Titans just three weeks ago, is working diligently to learn the Packers playbook and build chemistry with his new teammates. He has been impressed by the team’s receivers, who expressed confidence in his abilities.

“That he could spin it, that was just my first thought when I first saw him throw the ball,” said receiver Jayden Reed.

This would be Willis’ second chance to start in the NFL after a brief stint with the Titans in 2022. He’s determined to prove he’s a different player now, emphasizing his increased preparation and experience.

“I wasn’t ready yet, but I had to go in,” Willis said of his rookie season. “I’m a different player than then.”

The Packers are entering a crucial matchup against the Colts, and Willis is ready to seize his opportunity should he be called upon. “You just prepare until you get an opportunity,” he said. “That’s the way this league works.”
