Current Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has intriguingly refused to rule out a move to Aston Martin following the arrival of legendary designer Adrian Newey. Newey, known for his success at Red Bull, will be joining Aston Martin in 2024, leading to speculation about a potential Verstappen follow-up.
Aston Martin’s team principal Mike Krack has confirmed that the door is open for Verstappen, should he decide to leave Red Bull. While Verstappen is currently focused on Red Bull’s recent struggles, he acknowledged that Newey’s presence at Aston Martin does make the team more attractive.
Newey was also pursued by several other teams, including Ferrari, and received praise from Lewis Hamilton. However, Hamilton stated that he is fully committed to his upcoming move to Mercedes and will not be impacted by Newey’s absence.
Fernando Alonso, who will be driving alongside Newey at Aston Martin, revealed that he personally requested the designer’s presence during a private conversation. Alonso anticipates Newey’s influence will be fully felt in 2026, by which time Alonso will be nearing the end of his current contract. Regardless of his future plans, Alonso is determined to reap the benefits of Newey’s expertise at Aston Martin.
