**Haifa, Israel:** A rare Bronze Age jar, accidentally shattered by a 4-year-old boy at the Hecht Museum in August, is back on display after expert restoration. The jar, believed to be from between 2,200 and 1,500 BC, was on open display near the entrance when the boy, curious about its contents, pulled it, causing it to break.
The museum, known for showcasing artifacts “without obstructions,” is using the incident as a learning opportunity. The Geller family, whose son caused the accident, were invited back for a special visit and hands-on activity. A new “please don’t touch” sign has also been added to the exhibit.
Despite the unfortunate event, the museum sees a silver lining. Museum director Inbal Rivlin said the incident provided a welcome distraction from the ongoing war in Gaza, touching people in Israel and around the world.
The jar, likely used to hold wine or oil, was repaired using 3D technology, high-resolution videos, and special glue. Though the restoration left some hairline cracks and a few missing pieces, the jar’s impressive size remains intact.
