**LONDON** – Hugh Grant, known for his role as the charming but flawed Daniel Cleaver in the Bridget Jones series, has revealed he was deeply moved by the script for the fourth installment, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.” In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 64-year-old actor admitted he cried upon reading it.
Grant, who appeared in the first two films but declined to participate in the third, initially expressed interest in returning for the fourth. However, he found that his character didn’t fit the storyline. “I loved the script – it made me cry, and I wanted to help with this one,” said Grant. “But really there’s no part for Daniel Cleaver in it at all. They wanted him in it, and in the end, they’d done something I wasn’t crazy about.”
Despite his initial hesitation, Grant did contribute to the project. He wrote scenes to incorporate Daniel Cleaver into the story with director Michael Morris’ approval.
Despite his absence from the main storyline, Grant remains a fan of the series and praised “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.” “It’s absolutely the best [Bridget Jones book], and I think it’s very funny and very, very moving,” he said.
Grant’s limited involvement in the film was confirmed. “I’m not in a lot, I did a week’s work, that’s it… But when you see the film, you’ll be very moved,” he added.
“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is set to be released on February 14, 2025.
