**Tokyo, Japan** – Renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has been awarded the 2024 Praemium Imperiale Architecture Award, a prestigious international arts prize presented by the Japan Art Association. Ban is recognized for his innovative and sustainable architectural work, particularly his use of timber, paper, and bamboo.
Ban’s designs have gained international acclaim, with notable projects including the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Aspen Art Museum, and Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre. He is also known for his humanitarian efforts, creating temporary shelters, emergency building systems, and community centers for victims of natural disasters and conflicts worldwide.
The Praemium Imperiale, awarded under the patronage of Prince Hitachi, carries an honorarium of 15 million Yen (approximately £73,000).
