**Chicago, IL** – Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese’s rookie season came to a sudden end on Friday, September 8th, after suffering a season-ending wrist injury against the LA Sparks. The 22-year-old, who was in contention for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award, underwent surgery to repair a fractured wrist.
Reese, who averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, was forced to leave the game after falling and injuring her wrist. Following the injury, Reese took to social media to address rumors circulating about a possible pregnancy.
“I’m not pregnant, that was never a thing,” Reese stated on Instagram. “I want to make this crystal, crystal, crystal clear. I don’t have a man to have kids. I don’t have a ring to have kids. I’m 22 with no kids, and I’m not coming home to kids. So that’s not gonna be a thing any time soon.”
Reese’s injury, which will require a six-week recovery period, comes as the Sky are out of playoff contention with a record of 12 wins and a .352 win percentage.
“The doctors told me I could either not get surgery or have surgery,” Reese explained on TikTok. “The risk of not having surgery – I could literally have arthritis at 22 years old. That wasn’t an option. The bone could literally crack and completely shatter. Right now, it’s like a hairline… They’re going to put a small screw in it. And I wasn’t going for it getting any bigger.”
Despite the setback, Reese remains optimistic about the future. “I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next,” she said. “Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break.”
The Sky, who won their first game without Reese against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, September 8th, will next face the Washington Mystics at home on Wednesday, September 11th.
