Tue Sep 10 16:23:00 UTC 2024: ## Saudi Arabia and OECD Partner to Strengthen AI Incident Monitoring in the Middle East

**RIYADH, Saudi Arabia** – The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has partnered with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to enhance AI incident monitoring and track AI developments in the Middle East. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Global AI Summit (GAIN) in Riyadh.

This strategic collaboration will see the implementation of the OECD’s AI Incidents Monitor (AIM) in Arabic, allowing for more comprehensive reporting of AI-related incidents in the region. By working with local entities, the partnership aims to improve the database of AI policies, which currently includes information from 70 countries and over 1,000 policies.

“This is a significant step towards ensuring trustworthy AI systems that align with international standards,” said a spokesperson from the SDAIA. “By working with the OECD, we seek to enhance AI policy monitoring and incident reporting, ensuring that Arabic-speaking countries can actively contribute to and benefit from the global AI landscape.”

The Middle East is a rapidly growing hub for AI development and regulation, yet lacks comprehensive data on AI incidents and policies. This initiative aims to bridge that gap, allowing for better risk assessment and policy development.

The OECD’s AIM is designed to document AI incidents and hazards, providing valuable insights to policymakers, AI practitioners, and stakeholders worldwide. This partnership underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ethical AI development and responsible implementation.
