**BEIJING, CHINA/RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – September 6, 2024** – Music icon Mariah Carey has resumed rehearsals for her upcoming live performances in China and Brazil, just weeks after the tragic deaths of her mother and sister.
Carey announced the devastating loss of her family members in late August, requesting privacy as she grieved. The singer took to social media to share her return to work, posting a video of herself performing a stripped-back version of “It’s Like That” from her 2005 album “The Emancipation of Mimi.” In a separate post, she dedicated a performance of “I Wish You Knew” from the same album to her fans in China and Brazil, where she will perform over the next two weeks.
These performances mark Carey’s first since revealing the double loss. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Carey recently concluded the second leg of her “Celebration of Mimi” residency in Las Vegas, with the show set to return in January 2025. She is scheduled to perform in Rio de Janeiro on September 13th at Rock in Rio and in São Paulo on September 20th at Allianz Parque. Carey will also headline two performances at Beijing Workers Stadium in China on September 15th and 16th.
