**Gaza City, Israel -** New details have emerged regarding the brutal murders of six Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas during the recent conflict, revealing a harrowing struggle for survival in the final moments.
According to Channel 12 News, the families of the victims were informed over the weekend of the Israel Defense Forces’ investigation findings, which revealed that several of the hostages attempted to defend themselves against their captors.
The six victims, identified as Hersh Goldberg-Polin (23), Eden Yerushalmi (24), Ori Danino (25), Alex Lobanov (32), Carmel Gat (40), and Almog Sarusi (27), were found dead in a tunnel beneath the southern Gaza city of Rafah on August 31st.
Forensic evidence suggests that Goldberg-Polin, Danino, Lobanov, and Sarusi fought back against Hamas militants in a desperate attempt to protect Yerushalmi and Gat.
The families were also shown evidence from the tunnel, which was described as cramped and lacking basic necessities like ventilation, toilets, or showers. Items recovered from the site included protein bars, a generator, a small flashlight, and a chess set. Several notepads were also found and turned over to the relatives.
The IDF believes the hostages were killed the day before their bodies were discovered during an Israeli raid on the tunnel. Autopsies conducted by the Israeli health ministry confirmed that all six victims were killed by close-range shots.
Prior to the discovery of their bodies, Hamas released pre-recorded videos of the hostages, including Goldberg-Polin, Yerushalmi, Lobanov, and Gat, delivering emotional final messages to their families.
The latest details paint a grim picture of the hostages’ captivity and their courageous attempts to resist their captors. They serve as a stark reminder of the brutality of the conflict and the profound loss endured by the families of the victims.
