**JOHOR BARU** – The Johor District Disaster Management Committee has been activated to clean up illegally dumped chemical waste at Tiong Nam Industrial Park and Desa Tropika Industrial Area. This action comes following a recent spate of odour pollution incidents across Johor, which began on September 3rd.
The committee, activated under the directive of Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, will deploy relevant agencies to coordinate the clean-up and undertake remedial measures at the affected locations, said state Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon.
Two suspects, a lorry driver and his assistant, were arrested on Monday night in connection with the chemical odour pollution. Police are currently investigating their involvement.
Meanwhile, 38 residents of Kampung Orang Asli Pasir Intan in Kota Tinggi, who had been relocated to a temporary evacuation centre due to the pollution, were allowed to return home on Tuesday.
The pollution has caused significant disruption, including the temporary closure of several schools and the displacement of residents. The Department of Environment (DOE) is investigating the incident and will soon release a report to help identify the culprit.
