**London, England** – Lee Carsley, the new interim manager of the England national team, has steered the Three Lions to a 2-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland in his first game in charge. Goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish secured the win in the Nations League clash at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
While acknowledging the responsibility of his new position, Carsley stressed that he sees himself as a head coach rather than a manager in the traditional sense. He believes that the role of a coach has evolved, with the support of a team and modern technology reducing the workload on the individual.
“The amount of support now that’s based around a head coach gives coaches the freedom to do what they do best,” said Carsley, who previously managed England’s Under-21 side.
He emphasized his strength lies in coaching and being on the pitch, adding that he is fortunate to have a strong support team who take some of the pressure off, allowing him to focus on his coaching duties.
Carsley’s next challenge will be against Finland at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, followed by more Nations League matches against Greece and Finland again in October.
The victory against Ireland has given Carsley a positive start to his interim role. Whether he becomes the permanent manager will depend on his results in the coming matches, with England’s footballing legend predicting that Carsley could be offered the job if he continues to perform well.
