**New Delhi, August 31, 2024:** A delegation of Delhi BJP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, has called for the dismissal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, alleging a “constitutional crisis” and accusing the government of governance failures.
In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, the delegation urged her to intervene, citing various concerns about the functioning of the AAP government under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The letter was subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further action.
The BJP MLAs pointed to the ongoing corruption charges against Chief Minister Kejriwal, who has been in jail for over four months related to the Delhi excise policy scam. Despite this, Kejriwal has refused to step down, creating what the delegation describes as an unprecedented constitutional crisis.
The delegation also claimed that critical government orders are being delayed due to the absence of the Chief Minister’s signature, resulting in a breakdown of governance in Delhi.
“The situation of such moral bankruptcy from the head of a state was unforeseen by our Constitution’s farmers,” the memorandum submitted to the President stated.
The delegation, consisting of MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan, Kartar Singh Tanwar, and former Delhi minister Rajkumar Anand, urged the President to invoke Article 356 of the Constitution, which allows for the dismissal of a state government.
The Delhi BJP President, Vijender Gupta, expressed confidence that appropriate action would be taken against the AAP government, which he claims has “lost the moral right to remain in power.”
The AAP government has yet to respond to the allegations made by the BJP delegation.
