Vellore, December 31, 2025 – Paradarami police arrested two individuals, a 44-year-old lorry driver and his 35-year-old accomplice, yesterday evening at a check post on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border near Gudiyatham town in Vellore district. The suspects, identified as K. Venkatesan from Tirupattur and B. Prakash from Tiruvannamalai, were apprehended for smuggling 75 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth ₹20 lakh.

Acting on the directive of Superintendent of Police A. Mayilvaganan, special police teams are actively working to curb drug smuggling in the district. The arrest occurred during a routine vehicle check at the border village when police discovered bundles of ganja wrapped in plastic sheets concealed under the driver’s seat of the lorry. The vehicle originated from the Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

During interrogation, Venkatesan admitted that they intended to transport the contraband to Tier-II cities like Coimbatore, Trichy, and Madurai for distribution. Both men were immediately arrested. Police have impounded the ganja and the vehicle used in the attempted smuggling operation. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway.
