Wed Dec 31 18:27:20 UTC 2025: ## BJP to Agitate Against “Flawed” GHMC Division Delimitation in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, December 31, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans for a “people’s agitation” against what it calls a flawed final list of population and jurisdictional divisions within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). This follows the merger of 27 local bodies on the city’s outskirts.

Former MLA and party convenor of the delimitation monitoring committee, NVSS Prabhakar, leveled accusations against GHMC officials, claiming a lack of clarity in the criteria used for increasing the number of divisions to 300. He questioned whether population, geographical area, or the number of voters served as the basis for the redrawing of boundaries.

Speaking to reporters after submitting a memorandum of concerns to GHMC Commissioner R.V. Kannan, Prabhakar alleged “structural flaws” within the new map, including instances of single divisions falling under multiple Assembly constituencies and spanning across separate revenue districts. He further suggested the new map was politically motivated, favoring the ruling party, and speculated it could have been drafted with input from the Congress and MIM parties.

The BJP leader also claimed the civic body disregarded public opinion, despite receiving approximately 10,000 objections and suggestions. According to Prabhakar, changes were limited to minor name alterations, while significant issues such as geographical integrity and population balance remained unaddressed.

Meanwhile, BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao met with national president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi to discuss the political situation in Telangana. Rao highlighted the party’s “good results” in recent local body polls and its growing position as an alternative in the state. Nadda reportedly praised the efforts of local leaders and emphasized the need to connect with the public, identify key issues, and exert consistent pressure on the government for resolution. He also pointed to internal conflicts within the BRS party and the failures of the Congress as factors contributing to the BJP’s rising appeal in Telangana.
