BJP Achieves Landmark Victory in Thripunithura Municipality, Ernakulam
KOCHI – In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a decisive victory in the Thripunithura municipality of Ernakulam, Kerala. The BJP’s impressive performance has disrupted the long-standing dominance of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the region.
The BJP won 21 seats in the 53-member civic body, staking a claim to power after serving as the principal opposition for the past two terms. This marks a major achievement for the party, which has steadily increased its presence in the municipality over the last two decades.
The LDF, which has held a stronghold in Thripunithura since 1978, secured 20 seats, a significant drop from their simple majority in the 2020 polls. The United Democratic Front (UDF), though coming in third with 12 seats, saw a slight improvement compared to their 2020 performance.
BJP workers celebrated the historic win, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape of Ernakulam. The victory underscores the BJP’s strategic efforts to gain a majority in the civic body and marks a turning point after consistent growth since 2010, when they held only one councillor position.
