Sun Dec 07 09:55:37 UTC 2025: Kerala CM Vijayan Denounces Alleged Ties to Islamic Organizations Amid Political Wrangling

Kozhikode, Kerala – December 7, 2025 – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the media today, vehemently denying any endorsement or “good certificate” from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] or the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) and its political arm, the Welfare Party of India (WPI).

Vijayan acknowledged meeting with JIH functionaries in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss issues faced by the organization. However, he emphasized the CPI(M)’s awareness of the JIH as a “communal organization.” He further stated that he directly criticized the Solidarity Youth Movement, the JIH’s youth wing, branding them an “anti-social organization.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks follow criticism from United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders who allege past support from the JIH and WPI for LDF candidates, along with meetings between their leaders and CPI(M) officials. The CPI(M) had also criticized the WPI’s tactical alliance with the UDF for upcoming local body elections.

In a counter-attack, Vijayan accused the UDF government led by Oommen Chandy of attempting to ban the JIH in 2014, deeming it “anti-national.” He further claimed the Congress-led Union government banned the JIH in 1992 and stated that the JIH supported the LDF in 1996 in protest. He also accused the Indian Union Muslim League of succumbing to the JIH’s leadership.

Vijayan also accepted a debate challenge from Alappuzha MP K.C. Venugopal regarding the performance of UDF MPs from Kerala. He further alleged that Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran and Kozhikode MP M.K. Raghavan attempted to create trouble for the state by questioning the continued benefits for Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries after Kerala declared itself free from extreme poverty. He noted that the Central government later clarified that there would be no change in the beneficiaries’ status.
