Sun Dec 07 07:53:21 UTC 2025: Goa Nightclub Fire Claims 25 Lives During “Bollywood Banger Night”
Arpora, Goa – December 7, 2025 – A devastating fire at the “Birch By Romeo Lane” nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, claimed the lives of 25 people late last night, leaving six others injured. The blaze broke out during a “Bollywood Banger Night” event, attended by approximately 100 tourists.
Eyewitness video footage shows a dancer performing to a Bollywood song moments before flames erupted near the DJ console. Initially, the crowd appeared unconcerned, but the situation quickly escalated as the fire spread rapidly through the ceiling.
Reports indicate that the nightclub’s narrow entry-exit points hampered evacuation efforts and rescue operations. Some patrons fled to the kitchen downstairs, where they became trapped due to lack of ventilation, succumbing to suffocation. Firefighters faced additional challenges as narrow lanes prevented fire engines from reaching the site, forcing them to park 400 meters away.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed his condolences, calling the incident unprecedented in Goa’s tourism history. “The fire started on the upper floor, and because the doors were very congested, some people managed to escape, but once the fire intensified, others could not get out. Many who moved towards the underground area died due to suffocation because there was no proper ventilation,” he stated.
The state government has launched a magisterial inquiry to investigate potential violations of fire safety and construction norms. An FIR has been filed against the hotel’s general managers and owner, and arrest warrants have been issued. The government has pledged financial assistance to the victims’ families and vowed to implement measures to prevent future tragedies.
