Bihar Government Defends Stance on Encroachments Amidst “Bulldozer” Accusations
Patna, Bihar – December 5, 2025 – Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary vehemently denied the new state government is implementing a “bulldozer model” akin to Uttar Pradesh, in response to accusations from the Opposition. Speaking in the State Assembly on Thursday, December 4, Choudhary stated, “My name is Samrat Choudhary, not bulldozer.” He emphasized Bihar’s commitment to good governance (“sushashan”), a term associated with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The remarks came amidst heated debates regarding the Governor’s address and allegations of “jungle raj” leveled against the government by RJD legislators. Fellow Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha vowed to crack down on land, sand, and liquor mafias with the use of bulldozers if needed. The Opposition CPI (M-L) party staged a statewide sit-in on Wednesday, December 3, protesting what they claim is the demolition of homes and livelihoods of the poor and Dalits across Bihar.
Choudhary clarified that the government is acting on illegal encroachments based on court instructions and will continue its crackdown on mafia activities.
During the assembly session, opposition members also raised concerns regarding the fairness of the recent Assembly elections, where the NDA coalition secured a significant majority (202 out of 243 seats). Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary defended Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, noting his recent appointment as Chairperson of the Sweden-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA).
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a 20-minute address, praised the central government for its cooperation with the NDA government in Bihar.
