Telangana Government Approves Ticket Price Hike for ‘Akhanda 2’ Premiere, Mandates Charity Contribution

Hyderabad, December 4, 2025 – The Telangana government has issued a Government Order (GO) greenlighting increased ticket prices for the highly anticipated Telugu film “Akhanda 2,” starring Balakrishna Nandamuri and directed by Boyapati Srinu. This marks the fourth collaboration between the actor and director, fueling considerable fan excitement.

The GO allows for a special premiere show in Nizam at 8 PM, with tickets priced at ₹600 including GST. Furthermore, single screens can implement a ₹50 hike, while multiplexes can increase prices by ₹100 for the first three days, starting tomorrow.

While some believe the GO should have been issued earlier to generate more pre-release hype, the move is largely welcomed, ensuring synchronized release timings across both Telugu-speaking states. This addresses earlier concerns about potential staggered release times between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which could have impacted initial film reviews.

However, the GO comes with a significant stipulation. Following instructions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the government mandates that 20% of the incremental revenue generated from the hiked ticket prices must be contributed to the Movie Artistes Association’s (MAA) welfare fund. This contribution aims to support film industry workers.

The directive, stated in the GO, requires all theatres charging the enhanced rates to contribute 20% of the additional revenue to the MAA welfare account.

While this initiative has the potential to benefit numerous film industry workers, opinions are divided. The long-term impact and acceptance of this mandatory contribution within the industry remain to be seen. Film analysts are closely watching how this revenue-sharing model will be received and implemented across theatres.

The makers of “Akhanda 2” are optimistic about the premiere response and believe that positive early reviews will translate to strong box office numbers.
