Wed Dec 03 06:10:16 UTC 2025: Lucknow Drug Bust: Man Arrested in Illegal Cough Syrup Trade

Lucknow, December 3, 2025 – Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) apprehended Alok Pratap Singh near Palassio Mall in Lucknow on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) for his involvement in the illegal storage and trade of banned cough syrup and other drugs containing codeine. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into the illicit distribution network.

According to a statement released by the Director General of Police (DGP) office, the STF had been receiving intel on the illegal storage and trade of Phensedyl cough syrup and other codeine-containing drugs, which were reportedly being used as intoxicants. The investigation revealed that these drugs were being trafficked to various locations across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, West Bengal, and even across the border into Bangladesh.

A joint investigation committee comprised of the STF and the Food Safety and Pharmaceuticals Department was formed, leading to the recovery of a substantial quantity of illicit Phensedyl cough syrup. Previous arrests in connection with the case include Vibhor Rana and Vishal Singh on November 12th, and Amit Kumar Singh alias Amit Tata on November 27th.

Authorities are currently interrogating Alok Pratap Singh to gather more information about other members of the criminal network. The case is being investigated at the Sushant Golf City police station.
