Karnataka Launches e-Swathu 2.0 for Rural Property Owners
Bengaluru, India – December 1, 2025 – The Karnataka government today unveiled e-Swathu 2.0, a new software designed to simplify property document access for residents in rural areas. The launch, spearheaded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aims to improve efficiency and transparency in property tax collection, bolstering the financial resources of gram panchayats (village councils).
“People’s participation will strengthen democracy, and gram panchayats should become power centers,” stated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the launch event. The initiative will bring properties under tax net and allow for more revenue to provide facilities to properties outside of panchayat limits.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge explained that e-Swathu 2.0 will enable residents to quickly and easily obtain e-khata documents for their properties. He cautioned, however, to anticipate some initial teething issues as the system is rolled out.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar urged the public to utilize the new facility for property registration and tax payments. “There is no need for people to run from pillar to post. Pay tax through 11B and register the properties,” he said.
The launch coincided with the Gandhi Grama Puraskara ceremony, where 238 gram panchayats across the state were recognized and awarded for their exemplary performance in 2023-2024.
