UCLA Eyes Arizona’s Brent Brennan as Potential Head Coach Amid Ongoing Search
LOS ANGELES, CA – Following the abrupt dismissal of head coach DeShaun Foster on September 14th after a dismal 0-3 start to the season, UCLA is actively searching for a permanent replacement to lead its football program. Athletic Director Martin Jarmond has pledged to find a leader with a proven track record of success and provide the resources necessary to compete at the highest level.
“We will identify, recruit, and invest in a leader who has the vision, the confidence, the attitude, and the proven ability to return UCLA Football to national prominence, and we will provide the resources to compete and win at the highest level,” Jarmond stated. “That’s our commitment to our alumni, fans and supporters.”
While several high-profile names like Florida State’s defensive coordinator Tony White and former Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy have been circulating, On3 insider Pete Nakos has unexpectedly listed Arizona’s Brent Brennan as a realistic contender for the job.
Brennan, a California native with deep recruiting ties throughout the state, presents an intriguing option for the Bruins. He successfully transformed San Jose State from a struggling program into a Mountain West Conference champion, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2020. More recently, he has demonstrated his ability to coach at a Power-level program, with Arizona achieving an 8-3 record and demonstrating improved advanced metrics in 2025.
Brennan’s local roots and proven ability to rebuild programs could signal a move towards stability and regional recruiting for UCLA. A high-profile external hire, on the other hand, would indicate a desire for immediate success. Regardless of the choice, the new head coach will significantly reshape UCLA’s recruiting strategy, style of play, and overall standing within the Big Ten Conference.
