Mon Nov 24 17:54:13 UTC 2025: Summary:
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and Member of Parliament, Thol. Thirumavalavan, has criticized the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging it’s a disguised attempt by the BJP government to implement a national register of citizens, similar to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which faced widespread protests. He argues that the BJP aims to undermine Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of a casteless, equitable India. Thirumavalavan claims that the BJP uses Dalit communities to get support, and they’ve made attempts to infiltrate other communities in Tamil Nadu, but VCK is an obstruction to the efforts in Adi Dravidar and Vanniyar communities.

VCK Leader Accuses ECI Roll Revision of Being a BJP Ploy to Create National Register of Citizens
Chennai, India – November 24, 2025 – Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and Chidambaram M.P., Thol. Thirumavalavan, has voiced strong opposition to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, calling it a covert attempt by the ruling BJP government to implement a national register of citizens (NRC). Thirumavalavan made these accusations during a protest meeting in Chennai earlier today.
According to Thirumavalavan, the BJP is using the ECI to bypass the widespread opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which triggered mass protests five years ago. He fears that the SIR could disenfranchise a significant portion of the population, estimating that “at least 10-15% of the people might not register as voters.”
The VCK leader also condemned the BJP’s alleged agenda to undermine the ideals of Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. He claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are actively working against Ambedkar’s vision of a casteless and equitable India by dividing SC communities.
Thirumavalavan warned of the BJP’s attempts to gain influence in Tamil Nadu by infiltrating various communities. While acknowledging some success in certain groups, he asserted that the VCK is a major impediment to the BJP’s efforts to gain a foothold in the Adi Dravidar and Vanniyar communities. He also mentioned Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is also flirting with BJP.
