Nebraska Extends Win Streak, Downs New Mexico in Hall of Fame Classic
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Nebraska Cornhuskers extended their nation-leading win streak to nine games Thursday night, defeating the New Mexico Lobos 84-72 in the opening round of the Hall of Fame Classic at the T-Mobile Center. The Lobos (3-2) struggled early, falling behind by as many as 20 points in the first half, a deficit they couldn’t fully overcome despite a spirited second-half rally.
Nebraska (5-0) came out firing, establishing an early lead and capitalizing on New Mexico’s slow offensive start. While the Lobos managed to cut the deficit to four points midway through the second half, a late surge by the Cornhuskers secured the victory.
Jake Hall led the Lobos with a career-high 20 points. Antonio Chol contributed 12 points, while Tomislav Buljan chipped in with 11 points, and Uriah Tenette added 10 off the bench.
“They got off to a really good start offensively and we dug ourselves a hole,” said New Mexico coach Eric Olen. “I appreciated the way our guys responded at the half to make a run and make it a game in the second half. It just wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.”
The Lobos attempted a school-record 44 three-pointers in the contest.
New Mexico will face either Kansas State or Mississippi State in the consolation game on Friday.
