Telangana Teachers Anxious Over Mandatory TET Exam Following Supreme Court Ruling
Rajanna Siricilla, Nov 17, 2025 – A recent Supreme Court ruling mandating that all teachers pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within two years has sparked anxiety among educators in the Rajanna Siricilla district of Telangana.
The ruling has created uncertainty, particularly for teachers who were recruited through the District Selection Committee (DSC) process prior to the strict enforcement of TET qualification. Many teachers feel it’s unfair to retroactively impose the TET requirement on those already employed and performing their duties.
Teacher unions are urging the state government to lobby the central government for exemptions for currently serving teachers. Concerns are mounting about the difficulty of passing the TET with the new syllabus while balancing teaching responsibilities. The biggest fear revolves around job security.
In Rajanna Siricilla district alone, approximately 1,400 teachers across 489 schools – including primary, upper primary, and high schools – are estimated to be affected by this new requirement.
The TET requires candidates from the OC category to score 90 marks, BC category candidates to score 75 marks and SC/ST/PHC category candidates to score 60 marks to qualify. SGTs without TET certification and LFL Headmasters are required to write Paper-1 of the exam. Those who have already qualified the Paper-1 exam need not appear for it again.
The second phase of the TET notification has been released and the online application process is currently underway, ending on November 29th. The exams are scheduled to be held online from January 3rd to 31st, 2026.
Adding to the concern is the fact that the syllabus for the TET will be the same for both working teachers and unemployed candidates. Teachers, who have already undergone extensive training, now face the challenge of studying the new syllabus alongside their teaching duties, causing widespread anxiety.
