Michelle Yeoh to Receive Honorary Golden Bear at 2026 Berlinale

Berlin, Germany – Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will be honored with the prestigious Honorary Golden Bear at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, organizers announced today. The award, recognizing Yeoh’s extraordinary contributions to cinema, will be presented at the festival’s opening ceremony on February 12, 2026, at the Berlinale Palast.

Yeoh, celebrated as a versatile and influential performer, boasts a career spanning four decades and continents. Her roles in groundbreaking films like “Yes, Madam,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Tomorrow Never Dies” (as a Bond girl) and the recent global phenomenon “Everything Everywhere All at Once” have solidified her status as a cinematic icon. Her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” led to her historic Oscar win in 2023, where she became the first actress of Asian descent to win in the Best Actress category.

“Michelle Yeoh is a visionary artist and performer whose work defies boundaries,” stated Festival Director Tricia Tuttle. “Her commanding presence, fearless artistic choices, and unmistakable style have left a lasting impression on generations.”

Yeoh has a history with the Berlinale, having served on the International Jury in 1999. “Berlin has always held a special place in my heart,” Yeoh said in a statement. “It was one of the first festivals to embrace my work with such warmth and generosity. Returning after all these years, in recognition of my journey in cinema, feels truly meaningful.”

The Honorary Golden Bear recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on the art of filmmaking. Previous recipients include legends like Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, and Tilda Swinton.

Yeoh’s upcoming projects include the highly anticipated musical “Wicked: For Good,” a return to Chinese cinema in “Ms. Rubik’s Cube” (working title), a leading role in the television series “Blade Runner 2099,” and the action thriller “The Surgeon.”
