Sat Nov 15 06:43:36 UTC 2025: Chennai Super Kings Trade Jadeja and Curran to Royals for Samson in IPL Shakeup
Chennai, India – In a surprising move ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have traded star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange for Sanju Samson. The news, confirmed by both franchises on Saturday, has left many fans reeling.
CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan described the decision as one of the toughest the team management has ever had to make. He explained that the trade was motivated by the need for a top-order Indian batsman and the limited options available in the upcoming auction.
“The team management felt the need for a top-order Indian batsman. And since not many Indian batsmen are going to be available at the auction, we thought the best way to get an Indian top-order batter is to go through the trade window,” Viswanathan said in a video released by CSK.
He emphasized that the decision was made after mutual agreement with the players, with Jadeja reportedly feeling that a change might be beneficial at this stage of his career. Jadeja, who has been a mainstay for CSK for 12 seasons, will see his league fee reduced from Rs 18 crore to Rs 14 crore as part of the trade.
Samson, a seasoned IPL veteran with over 177 matches under his belt and a current league fee of Rs 18 crore, will join CSK to bolster their batting lineup. Viswanathan highlighted Samson’s experience, leadership qualities, and relatively young age (around 30) as key factors in the decision.
“Sanju has been one of the most experienced IPL batsmen, having scored more than 4,500 runs. And he has also been leading Rajasthan Royals. He has the experience and he is only around 30 years. So, we thought that he will be a good addition for CSK to take care of the future.”
While acknowledging the emotional impact of losing two key players, Viswanathan expressed confidence that CSK would maintain its consistency and perform well in the coming years, citing the need to build a team for the future.
