Sun Nov 09 21:30:00 UTC 2025: Jaguars Acquire Jakobi Meyers to Bolster Passing Attack Amid Injury Woes

Jacksonville, FL – The Jacksonville Jaguars made a move to fortify their receiving corps ahead of a crucial AFC South matchup against the Houston Texans, acquiring wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for undisclosed draft picks. The trade, finalized before this year’s NFL trade deadline, aims to address the Jaguars’ struggles with dropped passes and a string of injuries impacting their wide receiver depth.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how his skill set fits within the system,” Jaguars general manager James Gladstone said Wednesday.

Meyers, a veteran receiver with four consecutive 800-yard receiving seasons, including a 1,000-yard year in 2024, is expected to make an immediate impact. He fills an urgent need as leading receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is sidelined with a high ankle sprain for Sunday’s game against the Texans.

The Jaguars have struggled with receiver consistency this season. While Thomas has 420 receiving yards, he hasn’t replicated the dominant performance of his rookie year. Second-year receiver Travis Hunter, despite winning the Heisman and Fred Biletnikoff Awards in college, has been largely ineffective and is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury. Other receivers Tim Patrick and Dyami Brown are also dealing with injuries.

The Jaguars’ passing offense ranks a middling No. 16 in the NFL, but receiver performance specifically is among the worst in the league. The team hopes Meyers’ reputation for sure hands can provide a much-needed boost. The Jaguars are statistically one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to dropped passes.

“Usually catching the football is not a superpower for a wide receiver,” Gladstone stated. “But for the Jaguars, it is approaching that territory.”

The timing of the acquisition couldn’t be more critical. The 5-3 Jaguars are set to face the 3-5 Houston Texans on Sunday, a game with significant implications for the AFC South division race. A victory would give Jacksonville a crucial season sweep over their division rivals and bring them closer to the division leading Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars are currently favored by 1.5 points.

While Meyers is unlikely to single-handedly transform the Jaguars’ offense, his reliability and experience offer a chance to elevate the team’s passing game and improve their chances of making a playoff push.
