Greenville, SC – Chaos erupted on WWE SmackDown as Aleister Black emerged as a new challenger for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship. Black, accompanied by Zelina Vega, made his intentions clear after Rhodes celebrated his recent title defense, interrupting the champion’s address and igniting a heated rivalry.
The main event match between Rhodes and Black on Friday night ended in a no-contest after Drew McIntyre, seemingly unable to let go of his animosity towards Rhodes, interfered and delivered a Claymore Kick to the referee. The interference sparked a brawl that also involved a returning Damian Priest, who had been sidelined after a brutal Last Man Standing match with Black.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, visibly frustrated by the escalating situation, has suspended Drew McIntyre indefinitely for his actions. While a new chapter in Rhodes’ reign as Champion has begun it remains to be seen if the constant appearance of others will hinder the progress of the Black and Rhodes feud.
The night also saw title action with Ilja Dragunov continuing his open challenge for the United States Championship. Meanwhile, Giulia successfully defended her Women’s United States Championship against former titleholder Chelsea Green.
New matches were also announced in a tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent.
Stay tuned to WWE programming for further updates on the developing rivalry between Rhodes and Black, and the fallout from McIntyre’s suspension.
