Indian Coast Guard Concludes ‘Sagar Kavach’ Exercise, Bolstering Coastal Security

MANGALURU, November 8, 2025 – The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully completed a two-day coastal security exercise, “Sagar Kavach,” conducted on November 6th and 7th along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts. The exercise aimed to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance the overall preparedness of the maritime defense mechanism in the region.

Sagar Kavach involved active participation from numerous Central and state government agencies, testing and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a real-time simulated threat environment. The exercise covered 320 km of coastline in Karnataka and 580 km in Kerala, including vital ports and installations.

The scenario involved a “Red Force,” representing anti-national elements, attempting to infiltrate the mainland. The “Blue Force,” comprising various security agencies including the ICG, Coastal Security Police, CISF, State Police, ITBP, Navy, Fisheries and Customs Departments, were tasked with defending and neutralizing the threat.

According to a Coast Guard release, Blue forces effectively thwarted the Red forces’ infiltration, utilizing electronic countermeasures, sophisticated anti-drone jammers, and phone tracking. The exercise allowed agencies to test their capabilities in identifying suspicious vessels, managing emergencies, and coordinating efforts in real-time.

“The successful completion of Sagar Kavach reaffirms the commitment and resolve of the Indian Coast Guard and other associated agencies in ensuring the safety and security of our coastline and vital installations,” the Coast Guard stated. The exercise demonstrates India’s ongoing efforts to fortify its coastal defenses and maintain maritime security.
