Anthony Hopkins Reflects on Estrangement from Daughter, Expresses Regret for Past Comments
Los Angeles, CA – In his new memoir, “We Did OK, Kid,” Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins is addressing his strained relationship with his daughter, Abigail Harrison, and expressing regret for past statements made about her.
Hopkins, 87, details in his book the decades-long estrangement from Abigail, 57, his daughter from his first marriage. He acknowledges that the situation has been fodder for tabloids, often with inaccurate reporting.
The actor candidly admits to making “cold” remarks about Abigail in previous interviews, including a 2018 statement where he said he didn’t know if she had married or had children and that he “didn’t care.” Hopkins attributes this callousness to a family trait of suppressing emotions and moving forward, saying, “That hardness is my default.”
However, he now expresses a desire for reconciliation. “I hope Abigail knows that my door is always open to her and that I want her to be well and happy,” Hopkins writes. He also apologizes for the pain caused by leaving the family when Abigail was a baby, though he maintains he felt he had no choice at the time.
Hopkins also acknowledges that Abigail may have never forgiven him for leaving the family.
Despite past remarks, Hopkins previously clarified his comments in The Times. At the time, he said that it wasn’t coming from a cold place and wishes her well.
“We Did OK, Kid: A Memoir” is available now wherever books are sold. Representatives for Abigail were unable to be reached for comment.
