Tragic Bus Accident in Chevella Claims 19 Lives; Over speeding Tipper Truck to blame

Hyderabad, India – A devastating road accident near Chevella, Rangareddy district, has claimed the lives of 19 people. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident and stating that a preliminary investigation indicates that a speeding tipper truck was the cause of the tragedy.

The accident occurred early in the morning when a private hired (PHB) express bus, en route from Tandur, was struck head-on by a tipper truck carrying a load of gravel. According to eyewitnesses, the tipper driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve at high speed. The impact caused severe damage to the front and left side of the bus.

Tragically, the tipper truck tilted and spilled its gravel load onto the passengers, leading to suffocation of many, including the bus driver, Dastagiri.

The TSRTC has emphasized that the bus was in good condition and the driver had a clean service record with no prior accidents. They assert that neither the bus nor its driver were responsible for the accident.

“The bus was fully fit, and the driver’s service record showed no previous accidents. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the tipper driver, who was traveling at high speed on the curve, lost control and caused the accident,” the TSRTC stated.

Following the accident, TSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy, Hyderabad Zone Executive Director Khushro Shah Khan, Incharge (Operations) ED Sridhar, and Rangareddy Regional Manager Srilatha rushed to the scene to oversee rescue operations.

The accident has plunged numerous families into grief. The local authorities are investigating the incident further.
