Tue Oct 28 09:50:00 UTC 2025: Giants Rookie RB Skattebo Out Indefinitely After Ankle Injury in Loss to Eagles
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The New York Giants’ Week 8 rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles turned sour after rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle during the second quarter of their 38-20 defeat.
Skattebo, a bright spot in the Giants’ season so far, was injured on a catch attempt when Eagles linebacker Zack Baun tackled him awkwardly, causing his foot to get stuck in the grass at Lincoln Financial Field. He was immediately carted off the field with an air cast on his right leg.
“I feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said after the game. “Looked bad. You feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury. I feel and I know the players feel the same way about Skatt.”
The team announced that Skattebo underwent surgery Sunday night at a Philadelphia hospital. On Monday, Daboll confirmed the surgery went well, stating, “All went well, Daboll said. He’s recovering. Obviously, he’ll be missed but on the road to recovery. … He’s got a road ahead of him.” The Giants later announced Skattebo had been discharged from the hospital.
Skattebo took to social media to thank the city of Philadelphia and the hospital staff for their care. He expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time in the hospital.
Before the injury, Skattebo had 12 rushing yards, 18 receiving yards, and a touchdown reception, with the Giants trailing 14-7. Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary attempted to fill the void left by his absence, contributing a combined 81 yards.
Through seven weeks, Skattebo had been a key player for the Giants, amassing 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 98 carries, along with 23 receptions for 189 yards and another score. His versatility and game-changing ability will be sorely missed as the Giants (2-6) move forward.
