Sun Oct 26 21:40:00 UTC 2025: Lando Norris Victorious in Mexico, Snatching Championship Lead
Mexico City – Lando Norris dominated the Mexico Grand Prix from start to finish, claiming a commanding victory and, more importantly, the lead in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship. The McLaren driver’s stellar performance marks his seventh win of the season.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secured second place, narrowly holding off a late charge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished third. A late Virtual Safety Car (VSC) proved crucial, freezing the gaps and allowing Leclerc to maintain his position despite Verstappen’s rapidly closing gap on fresher soft tires.
“What a race,” Norris exclaimed in a post-race interview, seemingly unfazed by scattered boos from the crowd. “I could just keep my eyes focused and forward, focus on what I was doing. A good start, a good launch, a good first lap, and I could go from there.”
Verstappen described his race as “hectic,” citing struggles on the medium tires at the start. “It was about surviving the first stint. Once we bolted on the softs, I think we were a little bit more competitive and happier,” he said. He also added, “It was a difficult weekend for us, but to be fighting for P2 with everything that happened in the first few laps was a very strong result.”
Leclerc, clearly pleased with his podium finish, acknowledged the impact of the late VSC. “Very happy with this weekend. Austin was very positive, but to end up on the podium again is a great surprise… I was quite happy about the VSC at the end! My tyres were completely gone. I could see Max was coming back on the softs.”
Behind the top three, Ollie Bearman delivered a stunning drive for Haas, finishing a career-best fourth after a tense battle with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who finished fifth. Highly rated Mercedes junior Kimi Antonelli finished 6th.
Championship Standings (Top 10):
