**North Bengal Landslips: Congress Leader Demands National Disaster Declaration**
**Kolkata, West Bengal – October 7, 2025** – Following devastating landslips in North Bengal, West Bengal Congress President Subhankar Sarkar has called for the crisis to be declared a national disaster. Sarkar, after visiting the affected areas today, urged the central government to allocate a special package for the region to facilitate proper rehabilitation and compensation for victims.
“It is high time for both the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to work in cohesion at this hour of crisis by forgetting their political differences,” Mr. Sarkar said. “We all should come together to fight for the cause of the people.”
Leading a delegation of party leaders, including Partha Bhowmik and Ashutosh Chatterjee, Sarkar assessed the damage en route to Mirik and spoke with locals, promising assistance.
Torrential rains triggered landslips and floods that left 30 people dead and several missing across north Bengal.
The Bengal Congress formed a disaster response committee to help those affected. Sarkar will submit a report to party leadership after his visit.
