**[City, State] -** Newly released video footage is raising serious questions about the culpability of former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy in a fatal car crash that occurred last December. Lacy, who tragically died by suicide in April, had been charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle in connection to the incident.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred when a Kia Cadenza swerved to avoid Lacy’s Dodge Charger and collided head-on with a Kia Sorento, resulting in the death of 78-year-old passenger Herman Hall.
However, Lacy’s attorney, Matt Ory, has now released security camera footage from the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s office investigation that paints a drastically different picture. Ory claims the video shows Lacy was actually 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the moment of impact.
“That is not how this story was ever painted. Never,” Ory stated in an interview with HTV 10 News. He further clarified that while data shows Lacy passed four cars earlier, he was back in his lane and a significant distance behind the vehicles when the collision occurred.
Lacy’s death by suicide in April, just one day before he was scheduled to appear before a grand jury, sent shockwaves through the LSU community. Following Ory’s revelations, former teammates and supporters have taken to social media, using the hashtag #LLK2 (“Long Live Kyren” and his jersey number 2), to express their grief and defend his character. LSU Defensive end Savion Jones posted on X, criticizing the portrayal of Lacy as the “bad guy.”
The new evidence is likely to reignite debate surrounding the case and raise questions about the initial police investigation.
