**Flood Warning Issued for Kodagu District as Harangi Dam Releases Water**

**MYSURU, INDIA – June 25, 2025** – Authorities in Kodagu district, Karnataka, have issued a flood warning following a red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and a surge in inflow into the Harangi dam. At 4 p.m. today, approximately 10,000 cusecs of water were discharged from the reservoir due to persistent rainfall in the catchment area.

“The inflow into the Harangi reservoir is increasing, and the dam may soon reach its maximum capacity. As a result, surplus water will be released into the river,” stated I.K. Puttaswamy, Executive Engineer, Harangi Rehabilitation Division, Kushalnagar.

The Harangi dam, situated near Hudgur village in Kushalnagar taluk, is built across the Harangi River, a tributary of the Cauvery. With continued rainfall anticipated, officials caution that the inflow is expected to rise further.

Residents living along the banks of the Harangi and Cauvery rivers are strongly advised to take precautionary measures and evacuate to safer locations immediately. Dam authorities are closely monitoring the evolving flood situation. The IMD’s red alert for Kodagu district remains in effect until 8:30 a.m. on June 26th.
