**Kane Heads Home: Oilers Trade Winger to Canucks for Draft Pick**

**Vancouver, BC** – In a move that sends shockwaves through the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers have traded veteran winger Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the upcoming NHL Draft. Kane, a Vancouver native, announced the trade himself via social media, expressing his excitement to join the team he grew up watching.

“It’s an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid,” Kane stated on X. “Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.”

Kane’s agent, Dan Milstein, confirmed that multiple teams were vying for the forward’s services, but Kane’s preference was to return to his hometown.

The 33-year-old Kane is entering the final year of a four-year, $20.5 million contract. He missed the beginning of the 2024-2025 season due to abdominal and knee surgeries but recovered to score 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games.

Oilers general manager Ken Holland spoke of Kane’s contribution to the team during his time with Edmonton and wished him well.

The trade provides the Oilers with significant cap relief, freeing up $5.13 million as they look to re-sign restricted free agent Evan Bouchard. With $11.96 million in space and 19 players under contract, Edmonton now has some flexibility with free agency.

Kane, a former fourth-overall pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2009, brings a veteran presence and scoring touch to the Canucks lineup. Throughout his NHL career he has scored 326 goals and 617 points in 930 games.
